Minister flagged off first flight
The Hajj pilgrimage co-ordinated by the State Hajj Committee has begun on 13th August 2017 with the flagging off of the first hajj flight to Jeddah by Minister K.T.Jaleel from Cochin International Airport.
The Saudi Airlines flight carried 161 men and 139 women. A total of 11828 will be undertaking the pilgrimage this year. The first of the Hajj flight took off at 7.40 am followed by two more flights making way for 900 pilgrims to the holy land. CIAL has been facilitating the hajj camp for the last three years. The camp, functioning at one of the two hangars owned by CIAL, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on 12th August 2017. During his address, the Chief Minister had demanded that the centre to increase the Hajj quota for the state in view of the huge demand here. The inauguration function was chaired by Minister K.T.Jaleel. State Hajj committee chairman Thodiyoor Mohammed Kunju Maulavi, Central Hajj committee co-ordinator E.T.Mohammed Basheer, K.V.Thomas MP, Innocent MP, Anwar Sadath MLA, Rogi M.John MLA,V.J.Kurian, MD,CIAL were present at the function. The first phase of the Hajj pilgrimage from Cochin Airport stretches 26th August. There will be 39 departures to Jeddah.
