Cochin International Airport has set up a Rapid PCR testing facility in the wake of the issuance of a travel advisory by the Dubai Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management. CIAL Managing Director S Suhas IAS visited the Rapid PCR testing centre at Terminal-3 Departure Visitor’s Area.
A press communiqué released on 19th June 2021, announcing an update on Dubai’s travel Protocol by the Dubai Supreme Committee, mandated RAPID - PCR negative certificate for passengers travelling from India to Dubai along with an RT- PCR negative certificate taken within 48 hrs before departure. The updated protocol instructed that the passengers to Dubai from India should take RAPID PCR within 4 hrs prior to the flight departure. CIAL has installed the facility in collaboration with Sandor Medicaid Pvt. Ltd who was selected by Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd for testing RT-PCR for international arrival passengers. The Rapid PCR facility has the capacity for testing 200 persons in one hour. The result will be available in 30 minutes. Further details will be announced with the clarification from the authorities concerned, on this new testing system . CIAL also kept ready the facility for doing antigen test on international departure passengers if need arises. As per the Dubai travel Protocol, even after taking a normal RT-PCR and a Rapid PCR, the passenger has to undergo a PCR test on arrival at Dubai Airport and should observe institutional quarantine until they receive their test result, which is expected within 24 hrs. The outbound passengers from India should have received two doses of a vaccine approved by UAE authorities.
Apart from the newly installed Rapid testing centre, CIAL already has three RT-PCR testing centres; two of which are functioning at the T3 arrival area and one at the T1 arrival area.
