Shri. V. D. Satheesan

Shri. V. D. Satheesan is the 13th Chief Minister of Keralam and the first Congress Chief Minister from Ernakulam district. A native of Nettoor, Ernakulam district, he completed his schooling at S.V. U.P. School, Nettoor, and Panangad High School, and later obtained a degree in Law. He began his political career as a student activist. During his college years, he was elected as Arts Club Secretary of Sacred Heart College, Thevara, and later held various positions, including University Union Councillor of Kerala University and Mahatma Gandhi University, and Chairman of the Mahatma Gandhi University Union (1986–87). He also served as Secretary of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI).Shri. Satheesan was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Paravur in 2001 and has been re-elected continuously in 2006, 2011, 2016, 2021 and 2026. Widely recognised for his articulate speeches, legislative expertise and principled politics, he served as Leader of the Opposition from 2021 before leading the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to a decisive victory in the 2026 Assembly elections. In addition to the position of the Chief Minister, he has been entrusted with various other portfolios including Finance, Law and Port.
