Cochin International Airport is one of the leading International Air Cargo Centre’s in the Southern part of India. The new Air Cargo Centre at Cochin International Airport was commissioned on 01st December 2000. It is the foremost cargo center in India having the single service provider concept. The facility has more than 1,70,000 sq. ft. of office and warehouse space dedicated for the cargo operations and as capacity continues to expand substantial investments have consolidated and streamlined cargo movement at the airport.

1.Centre for Dry Cargo (CDC)
The centre has an area of 50,000 sq ft,  with dedicated space for handling and storage of Import and Export Cargo. It includes:
Export Facilities

  • Separate warehouse area allocated for storage facilities, inspection areas and two work stations for unitization with four delivery lines.
  • Strong room facilities for valuable and vulnerable cargo.
  • Dedicated storage area for the Dangerous Goods.
  • Hi-tech security system including Explosive Trace Detector (ETD).
  • CCTV with 24X7 recording facility installed at strategic areas monitored by the security personnel.


Import  Facilities

  • The separate area allocated for warehouse and storage, inspection and area for de-stuffing, including a separate area for transshipment cargo storage.
  • Dedicated unaccompanied baggage handling and clearance area.
  • Delivery of urgent and direct delivery cargo on 24X7 basis

 2.Centre for Perishable Cargo
 A state of Art Centre for perishable cargo with an area of 22,000 sq. Ft. for export-import of perishable cargo with all modern facilities in line with international standards.The entire facility is maintained at an ambient temperature of +18c and relative humidity. Cool rooms with three chambers of different temperatures range ,each 15MT capacity are provided

  • 20  to 80 C (1st Chamber)
  • 20 to 80 C (2nd Chamber)
  • 00  to -100 C (3rd Chamber)

The temperature controlled area inside the centre is earmarked for storage facilities, inspection areas and area of unitization.

3. Transshipment Cargo Facilities
A dedicated storage area is allocated for the transshipment cargo. The Import as well as export cargo from the Customs warehouses in the   catchments areas as well as airports like Chennai and Bangalore, Coimbatore etc are handled and stored at this centre for export from CIAL.
The import cargo from various airports like Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and other centres are transferred through RFS to our transshipment centre and customs cleared at Cochin Airport.
The Customs bonded truck operators are doing the RFS for the various carriers for the to and fro transits of cargo through Cochin Airport.

4. Domestic Cargo
We have a separate centre with an area of 18,000 Sq. Ft for the handling and storage of the Domestic cargo. CIAL is the sole service provider at this centre, with concerned airlines looking after the customer services. We have separate strong room facilities for the valuable and vulnerable cargo, including a separate area for handling the dangerous goods, the security functions are performed by us which includes the access control to the centre.

Import/Export procedures for Cargo
Importers/exporters can use the cargo centre for exporting and importing various types of cargo
 
Import procedure
The import consignments can be cleared after getting the gate pass from CIAL with the  following documents

  • Delivery order from the Carrier
  • Cargo charges paid receipt
  • Customs out of charge certificate on the Bill of Entry/Baggage Declaration               

Personal Baggage Clearance
The import section of the Cargo centre shall be handling the unaccompanied baggage, this shall be de-stuffed and kept in our warehouse. After getting the intimation from /Carrier, the passenger/customer can clear the baggage, by submitting necessary documents to the customs by himself with the passport.
 
Human Remains
Human Remains are delivered to the legal owner (consignee in the airway bill issued by the carrier) or to his/her nominee. In the case of the nominee, the authorization from the legal owner must be in the legal format attested by a notary.The clearance of the Human Remains and its procedures/formalities is carried out by concerned airlines. 
 
Export Procedure
The export consignments are cleared with the following documents by CIAL

  • Carting orders from the concerned airlines
  • Shipping Bill with Let Export and Allowed for loading order from customs
  • Cargo charges paid receipt (TSP and other charges if any )
  • The airline documents


Transshipment Services
The transshipment of cargo to and from this centre is provided by the concerned carriers by the RFS service. The concerned airlines/carriers will arrange necessary procedures/documentation for the transshipment of Cargo in association with the bonded truck operator.

Procedures to apply for Cargo Entry Pass (CEP) to International Cargo Terminal

(Applicable to CHA/IATA/ Freight forwarders/Exporters/Courier agencies/GSAs only)

1. Filled up application to be submitted in specific format. Application has to be signed by the

applicant and to be recommended by the authorized signatory of the agency.

Documents to be submitted with the application:

1. Request letter in company’s letter head signed by the authorized signatory of the company.

2. Police Clearance Certificate from SP/Commissioner’s office within 2 years

3. Appointment Order (for fresh applicants)

4. Copy of Govt. approved photo Identity Card.

5. DD for Rs. 590/- in favour of CIAL, payable at Nedumbassery.

6. Copy of valid CHA Licence/CHA card, IATA Certificate, IEC Code, Courier Licence issued by Customs as applicable.

7. Photo 2 Nos - 1 passport size & 1 stamp size.

Note: For reissue of CEP, the expired CEP should be surrendered while collecting new CEP. It is the responsibility of the agency to collect the original CEP from resigned/transferred staff and surrender the same to the pass section. Passes are issued for one year.

NOTES

  1. Demurrage free period shall be as per Government Orders issued and in force from time to time.
  2. Consignments of Human Remains, coffins including unaccompanied  baggage of deceased, human ashes and human eyes are exempted from the purview of TSP & Demurrage charges
  3. # Special Cargo consists of Live Animals, Hazardous Goods, Ornamental Fish, Chicks, etc
  4. Charges will be levied on the "gross weight" or the "chargeable weight" of the consignment, whichever is higher. Wherever the "gross weight" and (or) “volume weight” is wrongly indicated on the Airway Bill and is found more, charges will be levied on the "actual gross weight" or "actual volumetric weight", whichever is higher.
  5. For mis-declaration of weight above 2% and up to 5% of declared weight penal charges at double the applicable TSP charges will be levied. For variation above 5%, the penal charges will be levied at five (5) times the applicable TSP charges of the differential weight.

 (d) Valuable cargo consists  of Gold, Bullion, Currency Notes, Securities,  Shares, Share  Coupons , Traveller’s  Cheques, Diamonds (including  diamonds for industrial use),  Diamond Jewelry, Jewelry and watches  made of Silver, Gold, Platinum, Computer Parts, Mobile Phones and items  valued at USD 1000 per kilogram of gross weight and above.

 (e) GST will be charged extra at applicable rates.

 7. Cold Storage Charges

Rs. 2.50 per Kg per day subject to a minimum of Rs. 700.00 for each consignment
